THE MARBLE WRECK

Dive site of the Marble Wreck as it appears today
Capt. Dan Berg has been researching and exploring the shipwrecks off New York and New Jersey for over 20 years now. According to Jeff Flock, Bureau Chief for CNN "Dan Berg of Dive Wreck Valley" is an expert on North East Shipwrecks and wreck diving. He literally wrote the book on the subject." In addition to being the first to research and write the history of North East Shipwrecks, Capt. Berg's research is also credited with positive identification of at least four wrecks.
Now you can join Dan and his award winning team of divers, along with Del Morgan of Marbleholics.com, as they explore the newly discovered Marble Wreck. This fascinating, yet unidentified wood shipwreck was transporting general cargo including bottles, toys and marbles. Also found were ornate German beer stein lids. The wrecks age, circa 1870's, is known by researching the age of the bottles recovered from the site. Although not confirmed, initial research and investigation indicates a wood schooner inbound from Germany to the New World. Interestingly, all the marbles recovered appear to be handmade German marbles. The marbles that are raising the most excitement at this point are the single pontil, hand gathered oxblood swirls. This style of marble has been believed to be primarily made in the US. Although there are a few known to exist from Germany, they were believed to have been produced in and around the 1850's. Hopefully, further dives and investigation will reveal the secrets behind this rare and wonderful marble.
Only time and continued exploration may lead to the wrecks true identity and maritime history. For now, the wreck will be known as the Marble Wreck. All items from the Marble Wreck will be handled exclusively through Marbleholics.com.
